Carefully chosen herbs that support some of the different roles of the digestive system. Some are calming, some soothing and some stimulating. Taste-wise they are sweet, aromatic and herbal. Lemon balm and chamomile are gentle, calming herbs that promote all-round digestive health. Silky-soft marshmallow and meadowsweet can cool and soothe, whilst others, such as aromatic angelica and fennel can help ease gripes. Licorice mint and bee balm contain powerful essential oils that can stimulate the digestive fire. Vervain’s more bitter qualities can help with digestive issues related to nervous tension.

Species in the collection:

Matricaria chamomilla – Chamomile, German
Agastache foeniculum – Liquorice mint
Althaea officinalis – Marshmallow
Filipendula ulmaria – Meadowsweet
Verbena officinalis – Vervain, European
Foeniculum vulgare - Fennel

Many of the herbs in The Digestive Tea Garden can be enjoyed – fresh or dried – in a cup of herbal tea. Some, such as chamomile, fennel and lemon balm are distinctively delicious; others such as vervain are quite bitter and can be sweetened with licorice mint or marshmallow.

How to dry your herbs
Once you start drying your own herbs you will realise how good freshly-dried herbs can actually be. Lay them out on a rack and keep in a warm – around 35C – and well ventilated area for 12-24 hours, or until crisp and dry. Delicate leaves and aromatic roots must be handled especially carefully. Pick individual flowers and leaves and place neatly on your drying rack. For roots, scrub them clean, slice into smaller pieces and dry for as long as necessary. A dehydrator may be best for more predictable results and store in an airtight container.

About the brand
Earthsong seeds

Earthsong Seeds was created to share something they truly love; sowing seeds, watching them grow into beautiful plants and enjoying their health-giving potential. They especially want the seeds and plants that are offered to encourage the tradition of the home apothecary; growing and making your own simple herbal health-remedies at home. Looking after ourselves takes many forms, and growing healing plants and then making them into various teas and potions, is something that they find thoroughly nourishing.

Earthsong seeds are devoted to growing food and medicines in a way that nurtures Nature as well as ourselves. One of the great things about growing medicinal herbs is that they are so attractive to many insects. For not only are they all beautiful in their own way, they weave an essential loop in the ecology and health of all life.
