As well as delivering the highest quality cashew snacks to you, Cajuu feel it’s their mission to showcase the hard work of the people behind Cajuu, to put planet over profit, and to pay tribute to their heritage and provenance.

From their farming partners in Tanzania to the individuals in the UK, there are some absolutely incredible men and women that make Cajuu what it is.

Family heritage

Their grandfather started a tailoring shop in the 1970's in Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) - which continues to this day. He started to offer cashew nuts as snacks to his customers while they were getting their outfit measured.

Relationships with small scale cashew farmers grew and people started to associate the shop not only for tailoring but also for the amazing quality and size of the cashew nuts - and so the Cajuu journey began!

Ethical sourcing

Since the 1970’s Cajuu have built successful partnerships with hundreds of small scale farmers across southern Tanzania. It is these strong bonds and connections which is key to them being able to source sustainable and quality products. They know their Tanzanian cashew farming partners personally, meaning not only do they all collectively work hard to achieve repeatedly good harvests, but also provide the farmers with as much recognition as possible. They enable them to take ownership of their farming, as they are the true heroes of this story. They provide hand tools as well as equipment to their farming partners that protect against corrosive CNSL in the shell of the cashew which can burn the skin.

This simple yet vital supply of safety equipment has made their lives better and healthier, and also enables them to deshell more cashews which in turn allows them to earn more for themselves and their families. Furthermore, Cajuu only offer a fair, transparent price with no quotas or production demands for all orders.

Single origin & traceability

Cajuu exclusively and directly source their cashews from the Makonde Plateau in southern Tanzania, a region which due to its environment, soil conditions and climate make for amazing quality produce - including cashew nuts! Cajuu have full visibility of the supply chain, and are able to trace each cashew nut batch not only back to the farm but also the farmers who grow, harvest and process them.

Sustainability

Sustainability

Cajuu care deeply about our planet and everything they do from Tanzania to the UK and beyond across their supply chain ensures that they're doing the best by it.

Lower carbon footprint

Africa exports 90% of its shelled cashews to Asia for deshelling which has a huge impact on global emissions. This is where Cajuu differ, as they deshell in Tanzania, then ship freight these cashew nuts directly to the UK. This significantly reduces their carbon footprint.

Cajuu are constantly looking into ways to lower their carbon footprint. The largest contribution so far is
transporting their cashews directly from Tanzania to the UK. They’ve also planted, and will continue to plant, cashew trees to offset their carbon footprint and they’re in the process of calculating what their overall emissions are.

Going carbon negative

Cajuu’s quest as a business is to continue to look at ways to reduce and even negate their carbon footprint. They are working with 3rd party organisations to survey the land in southern Tanzania, and work with their farming partners to plant cashew trees in the best possible places to ensure they grow to their full potential.

Natural, vegan & plastic free

Cashew nuts are naturally loaded with vitamins and minerals, and they use only natural, vegan ingredients to ensure you get the best nutrition, and maintain clean, healthy and enjoyable cashew snacking. Cajuu’s flavours also have an African direction to them to harp back to their roots.
Additionally, their packaging is 100% plastic free helping to reduce their plastic pollution. They also encourage you to reuse their packaging where possible.
