Sweet pea ‘a grandi flori Multicolour’ – Lathyrus odoratus The sweet pea plant is native to Sicily, southern Italy and the Aegean Islands. Its Latin name, Lathyrus odoratus, translates as fragrant pea. This attractive climbing annual combines a myriad of colours with large and beautifully fragrant flowers. It can grow up to 150cm with support, so is perfect for trellises, walls and fences, as well as balcony coverage, its delicate tendrils entwining themselves around supporting structures. Sweet peas prefer locations where the air can circulate freely; otherwise they are relatively easy to grow.

Sowing

Annual: sow these seeds in pots of seed compost, in early spring in a frost-free place.

Harden off before planting out in late May after the last frost; sweet peas prefer well drained, water-retentive soil.

Install your supports before planting. Water in and tie in for first six weeks.

Note: seeds are poisonous so the plant is for decorative purposes only.
