About the brand
Choc Affair

The Choc Affair story began in 2006 when Linda Barrie, Founder and Chief Taster, realised that her daughters had an intolerance to milk – a devastating discovery for children who love chocolate. As there were few alternatives available back then, Linda decided to have a go herself and with a little time and a whole lot of soy milk she created a hot chocolate they loved. While her first little customers were pretty devoted, they also gave her the idea for a business making handmade chocolate. The next step was a dark chocolate stirrer that melted in warm milk to create an instant chocolatey drink – something they still make today. As demand grew – and not just at home – and with her house now permanently smelling of molten chocolate, Linda gave up her day job to become a full-time chocolatier.

Sustainability

Sustainability

Choc Affair is committed to minimising their impact on the environment, sustainability and enhancing the communities they are a part of.

Proudly palm oil free

Palm tree oil is used by many mass-produced brands as a cheap alternative to natural cocoa butter, but according to the World Wildlife Fund, it’s also responsible for the loss of an incredible 300 football fields of rainforest every hour. All of Choc Affair’s chocolate is guaranteed palm oil free – a tiny contribution, but one that’s well worth doing.

Sustainably sourced cocoa

All of the cocoa used in Choc Affair’s delicious chocolate products is responsibly and sustainably produced. They pay an additional 5% per kilo of cocoa beans to Luker, their Colombian supplier to support various projects in the cocoa-growing communities of Colombia where their chocolate is grown and harvested. These projects include reforestation, so they are doing all they can to ensure everything they take out of the earth is duly replenished.

Waste reduction

Choc Affair have eliminated 98% of single-use PET plastics from their entire range. For practical reasons, they use soft plastic pouches – easily recycled at your local supermarket – to guarantee the quality of their hot chocolate and chocolate buttons products. And, to counterbalance this impact, they’re funding the recovery of TEN pieces of plastic from the environment by pledging the sale of every plastic pouch sold to plastic action platform rePurpose.
