The Bambi Blunt Nose Fish (BNF) is a sustainable wooden version of a bodyboard, which Kiri have evolved from traditional Hawaiian paipo designs. Paipos were reputedly the world’s earliest bellyboards. Kiri's mission is to rid our beaches of cheap, throwaway bodyboards, which break almost immediately, litter our coasts and poison our marine wildlife. The Bambi BNF offers a sustainable alternative, which looks stunningly beautiful, performs amazingly well in every type of surf and will last you a lifetime.

Description

The Bambi BNF is wider than Kiri's original Bambi, designed to be ridden like a foam bodyboard. Like the original Bambi, the Bambi BNF is constructed from a sandwich of paulownia and bamboo. Paulownia is known as the aluminium of wood: strong, light and flexible. The combination of paulownia and bamboo creates a board which is feather-light, super-strong and with just the right amount of flex dialled in. As a result, the Bambi BNF is incredibly nimble and will deliver miles of smiles in any surf, from knee-high slop to overhead barrels, whether you are young, old, a total beginner or an expert surfer.

Best suited for…

All surfers in all conditions. Particularly recommended for heavier surfers, surfers with wider shoulders and bodyboarders. The Bambi BNF is best ridden with your head in line with the nose of the board, resting on your “inner” elbow (the one nearest the wave face) with your inner hand gripping the nose of the board and your outer hand gripping the outer rail of the board, in line with your stomach – much like a foam bodyboard is ridden. You can find many examples of this on YouTube! That said, you can also ride the Bambi BNF with your arms stretched out in front of you, like the original Bambi – whatever suits you!

Construction

Sustainably sourced paulownia and bamboo sandwich construction. Paulownia is a non-porous wood, meaning that it doesn’t need to be sealed with poisonous epoxy or polyurethane resins. Instead, Kiri boards are finished with three coats of UK grown hemp oil, making them some of the most sustainable surfboards on the planet.

Sustainability

The plant materials, paulownia and bamboo are grown on sustainable plantations near Valencia, Spain. This is also where the blanks are assembled. Our boards are designed, shaped, engraved and oiled in Cornwall. If ever you decide not to use your Kiri board anymore, just leave it in the garden. In time, it will mulch down and return to the earth, from whence it came!
